postgraduate / SESSIONAL COURSES FOR M Arch

ARCH 7100: (6 credits): Advanced Architectural Design Studio I

Process-based advanced design studio exploring design as a process involving experimenting, predicting, and hypothesizing; Architectural design through 3D modeling, mapping, spatial or environmental simulation, parametric techniques, and allied computational analytic methods and making. Introduction to visual research methods; Exercises on various established and experimental design-research methodologies successfully used in areas such as architecture and cities through project-based learning. Development of advanced design skills as a preparatory to design-research works and which can potentially help to cut across inter-disciplinary boundaries.

ARCH 7200: (6 credits): Advanced Architectural Design Studio II

Problem-based advanced studio work in relation to Architecture and Practice. Critical analysis of thematic design issues; Use of design narratives, advanced analytic and predictive tools; Exploring new directions and developing design rationale; Architectural design thinking addressing real-world complexities and challenges of the built environment; Engagement within the purview of thematic areas and tangents from spatial and behavioral issues, human settlement, landscapes and territories, culture and urban geographies, materials and making, contemporary social issues and urbanism, technology and production, interactions and visualizations, mobility and design, heritage and conservation, infrastructure and cities, climate and environment, rural habitats and ecologies.

ARCH 7000: (15 credits): Design by Research Project

An independent design project on a topic developed by the student and researched through critical reasoning as a creative process marking the transition between academia and professional practices. The Design by Research Project is an opportunity for the student to define their position with regards to a discrete problem related to the discipline of architecture. Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a full-time member of the Department. However, in special cases, a full-time member of the staff outside the University may be appointed as Supervisor if the research content of the project work is within the field of specialization of the member.
