Bachelor of Architecture
The Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) programme at BUET is a five-year professional degree, accredited by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) that aims to prepare thoughtful and responsible individuals who are primed to be leaders of the profession at home and abroad. B.Arch programme is administered by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUGS). Focusing on design studio this multidisciplinary curriculum emphasizes building technology, construction, history, theory and culture through which students develop visual literacy, design and communication skills, construction knowledge to face environmental, social and aesthetic challenges of contemporary architecture and urban practices. Students delve deep, different facets of architecture through ten different design studios and other essential theory courses that prepare them to see and think like an architect. Cumulative learning is possible only through immersion into design studio culture.
Master of Architecture
Master of Architecture (M Arch) is a professional postgraduate programme that involves problem-based advanced Studio-work in relation to Architecture. It is designed for students who wish to widen their knowledge in architectural design. This course allows students to develop their style and adapt to the changing market demands. Students also learn about complex and advanced methods of designing unique projects and implementing different construction methods. The minimum duration of the M Arch program shall be three semesters. To get an M Arch degree, a student must earn a minimum of 36 credit hours. This includes three theory courses (3 credits x 3), two Design Studios (6 credits x 2) and an independent Design by Research Project (15 credit hours) within five academic years or ten semesters.
Master of Science in Architecture
This postgraduate programme requires completion of a Thesis by Research which shall demonstrate evidence of satisfactory in-depth knowledge in the chosen field related to Architecture. The minimum duration of the MS Arch programme shall be three semesters. To obtain an MS Arch degree, a student must complete a minimum of 36 credit hours. This includes six theory courses (3 credits X 6) and a Thesis / Dissertation (18 credit hours).
Doctor of Philosophy
The PhD programme is a research degree offering independent research in architecture for a person who wishes to advance teaching or a research career with a commitment to make an original contribution in the field. The selection committee of the Department of Architecture selects a doctoral candidate provisionally and submits the name of the supervisor upon provisional admission. Supervisor must be a full-time faculty member of the department of architecture, BUET who will then propose a doctoral committee upon consultation with the Head of the Department. The committee must be recommended by the BPGS and approved by the CASR (Committee for Advanced Studies and Research). The minimum duration of the PhD course shall be four semesters. A student must complete all the required course works and dissertation within six academic years or twelve semesters.
