MS Arch (Master of Science in Architecture)

This postgraduate programme requires completion of a Thesis by Research which shall demonstrate evidence of satisfactory in-depth knowledge in the chosen field related to Architecture. The minimum duration of the MS Arch programme shall be three semesters. To obtain an MS Arch degree, a student must complete a minimum of 36 credit hours. This includes six theory courses (3 credits X 6) and a Thesis / Dissertation (18 credit hours).

A student applying for the MS Arch programme is required to select an area of interest (Division). The six Academic Divisions offered in the Department of Architecture are as follows:

  1. Construction and Technologies (CT)
  2. Environment and Energy (EE)
  3. History, Theory and Criticism (HTC)
  4. Housing and Settlement (HS)
  5. Synergies (SYN)
  6. Urban Design and Landscape (UDL)

Admission Requirements

For admission to the MS Arch programme, an applicant:

  1. must have obtained a B Arch degree or its equivalent degree from any recognized institution.
  2. must have a minimum GPA of 3.50 (out of 5.00) or a first division or equivalent in any one of S.S.C and H.S.C or in equivalent examinations and must not have a GPA less than 2.00 (out of 5.00) or a third division or equivalent in any of the aforementioned examinations.
  3. must have at least 50% marks or a minimum GPA of 2.50 (out of 4.0) or its equivalent in B Arch in the relevant branch.

Application Process

A total of 30-35 students for each academic session get selected. Approximately six seats are offered in M Arch and thirty seats are offered in the MS Arch programme.

For MS Arch programme, candidates must submit:

  1. An Application Form
  2. A Statement of Intent (250- 300 words)
  3. A Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Applicants will be called in for an interview. There will be no written exam in the selection process. During the interview, candidates must bring a Portfolio – a compilation of creative work (including thesis/ design projects, published articles and other scholarly works). Candidates shall make available their original certificates, transcripts and other records at the time of the interview.
